What size/weight will an adult Braque du Bourbonnais make?

The average Braque du Bourbonnais will stand between 51 - 58 cm at the shoulder, with the average weight being somewhere between 18 - 32 kg. Males are traditionally taller and heavier than the females.


Are there any known health risks?

The breed is not known for any health issues. Hip and elbow screening is recommended ahead of any consideration of breeding, as with most HPR breeds.


Do they make good family pets?

Braque du Bourbonnais make excellent family pets. They are extremely loyal and love to be with their people. With the correct socialisation from an early age, they are sociable with other dogs.


What do you feed your dogs and puppies?

All our dogs are fed a raw diet and our puppies are weaned straight from mum onto the highest quality raw puppy diet on the market.


What are their exercise requirements?

Braque du Bourbonnais are a high energy breed and will require at 1-2 hours of exercise per day. This shouldn’t just be physical exercise, they require mental stimulation too. Walks should be utilised for as much training as possible to keep their minds active. They are extremely biddable and keen to please so this makes obedience, gun dog, agility and other forms of training very rewarding.


Absolutely - with time and consistency. They are quick, keen learners, and readily respond to gun dog commands. We find that even those that have a high prey drive tend to work closer to the owner than some other gun dog breeds.

Are they easy to train?


Yes they really do like the water and are competent swimmers.
